Where Prey and Predator Roam

If there is something to be proud of, it is the rich and diverse wildlife of South Africa. Because our landscapes range from deserts and forests to mountains and coast, its teeming wildlife is varied, including the famous Big 5: Leopard, Lion, Buffalo, Elephant and Rhinoceros.  Thanks to conservation efforts and foresight, our country can indeed be proud and privileged to have access to exciting and exhilarating game viewing, which is a favourite activity for holidaymakers.

Kruger National Park is world-famous, and rightly so. Its nearly 2 million hectares is home to 147 mammal species, and although ticking off the Big 5 is a common goal for most visitors, there are other animal sightings you can look forward to that is just as exciting. Before your visit, download and print a checklist  from SANParks and challenge your friends and family to see who can spot the most game!

Hazyview Cabanas  in Mpumalanga is your ultimate bush retreat, with lovely views of the Sabie River from the picnic area and two Kruger National Park gates within easy driving distance. The Phabeni gate is a 20-minute drive, the Numbi Gate a 30- minute drive, while the Paul Kruger Gate is approximately a 45-minute drive.  Be sure to visit the resort’s activity desk to book game drives to the park, should you wish to have a guide. The friendly staff manning the desk can also recommend other exciting activities and places to visit while you are in the area.

Some of our resorts even have game walking around the property and minding their own business.  Dikhololo  in Brits is one such resort, and the experience of seeing game right outside your window never gets old! Some species you can expect to spot are Giraffe, Eland, Blue Wildebeest, Red Hartebeest, Kudu, Impala, Zebra and many more. The resort’s accommodation is clustered into different camps, most with their own swimming pools. Exciting facilities include a Supertube, heated pool and more.  There is also a convenience shop and liquor boutique on-site as well as a restaurant to cater for different tastes, even the pickiest eaters!

Waterberg Game Park  in Limpopo is a stunning 450 hectare game farm which offers wildlife enthusiasts excellent game viewing and birding. You won’t have to leave the resort to see Zebra, Giraffe, 10 species of antelope and small game. After an exciting day of game viewing, biking, hiking or kayaking, enjoy a delicious meal at the Bushbuck Terrace restaurant or savour a sundowner at the Thirsty Warthog bar.
