Resort Refurbishments: Always Evolving and Enhancing Your Investment
Here at The Holiday Club™, as part of our promise to you, we constantly strive to better your investment. Our Signature Collection resorts are largely owned and managed by The Holiday Club™ and we have annual refurbishment plans in place to ensure that you always have access to top quality resorts of impeccable standards, comfort and entertainment where you can truly enjoy your holidays and the benefits of being a Member of The Holiday Club™.
Twenty-two of our Signature Collection resorts and three of our Associated Resorts have undergone refurbishments over the past year, both major and minor as well as further development. Read on about what these improvements are, what we have planned for the next phase and where we have been working hard on maintaining and upgrading some of the smaller facilities at the resorts.

Waterberg Game Park
The restaurant and convenience shop at this stunning 4.5-hectare game farm are being completely revamped and upgraded and have been contracted out to new operators, the new names for the facilities are –
• Traders (Convenience shop)
• The Thirsty Warthog (Bar)
• Bushbuck Terrace (Restaurant)
The unit patios have been tiled, and a patio roof and braai facilities have been added. The games room and play areas will be upgraded to provide entertainment and activities suited to everyone, from toddlers to tweens. Kayaking facilities have been added for water sports fun.
Future plans include the addition of a Body Bliss “Bush” Spa.
This firm family favourite resort has plans in place for a major refurbishment to all units and upgrades to the on-site facilities such as the swimming pool and surrounding areas and the Putt ‘n Play course will be completely revamped, this is scheduled for commencement in 2017.
All units have been tastefully refurbished with a chic, elegant look, ensuring that our Members enjoy their stay in the Mother City in comfort and luxury. Everything, from kitchen cupboards to the reception and parking area, has been given a ‘facelift’ and some of the top floor units have been expanded for a more spacious feel. The little ones will love the well-equipped play area, which includes a fun modular play jungle gym.
The addition of a relaxation area on the rooftop is being planned. Our Members will have fun spotting Cape Town landmarks such as Robben Island, Table Mountain and Lion’s Head, from this lofty perch! You can tee-off in the sky with the planned Putt ‘n Play course. Braai areas will also be added as well as outdoor games facilities. The interior and exterior of the entire resort has also recently been repainted.
The resort’s exterior has been brightened up with a new paint job while the games room has been improved to cater to children of all ages. The gardens and surrounding grounds are also receiving an upgrade.
The new extension to the Body Bliss Day Spa will include a stilted treatment area. This means that our Members will be indulging in al fresco pampering sessions while enjoying expansive views of the bush and river. Soft furnishings throughout the resort are also being replaced. The famous buffalo units will also be completely refurbished by the end of this year to give them a more modern and comfortable feel. Refurbishments are planned to take place on the E block units in 2017.
KZN North Coast
Dolphin View Cabanas
This seaside resort is in the process of getting a complete revamp inside and out, including an upgrade to its facilities. The resort will be shut down from the last half of 2016 when work commences in July and is planned to open again for occupation in December 2016. We can’t wait to see the results! As part of our ‘Go Green’ initiative, Dolphin View Cabanas will pioneer our solar energy project. We hope to power 20-30% of the resort with the solar panels to be installed on the rooftops. The kiddies’ games room will also have a completely new look and feel as well as the Reception and Member Service Centre Office.
The addition of a Body Bliss Day Spa is in the works for this beautifully refurbished family seaside resort. After a fun day in the sun, sand and surf, our Members will soon be able to relax with a pampering treatment at the spa. Other facilities to be added include a brand new Putt ‘n Play course and a giant chess set, as well as the implementation of our solar energy project with solar panels planned for instalment. The resort now boasts a full time Resort Entertainment Coordinator, ensuring there are tons of activities, especially for the kids!
An exciting upgrade is planned for both penthouse units and we know it’s going to be fabulous! This project will commence in 2017.
Kwazulu-Natal South Coast
Sea and Sky
The soft furnishings and beds at this seaside destination have been replaced to complement the overall décor, which in turn, was inspired by the soothing hues of the ocean. The games room is also being refurbished to provide a variety of entertainment for the younger guests. The DSTV packages have been upgraded to include a wider variety of shows for your viewing pleasure and the entire exterior of the resort will be repainted in 2017.
The dining room furniture has been replaced by spiffy, brand new pieces and lovely new curtains put the finishing touches on this beautifully remodelled and decorated resort. Right across the road at the Suntide Cabanas, some units have been equipped with shiny, new appliances, and the exterior is looking great after getting a new coat of paint. There are upgrades planned for 2017 to the games room, on-site facilities and units.
Paving in the carpark is complete. And, acting on feedback from our valued Members, a walkway leading from the carpark to the first floor was added, making the resort more accessible. The resort will be refurbished in 2018.
Suntide Illovo Sands
The resort was refurbished in 2014/2015. The new pool deck is the perfect spot for our members to enjoy afternoon braais overlooking the ocean. The pool paving and surrounds have also been done as well as paving in the car park. New Putt ‘n Play courses have also been installed for golfing fun!
The new on-site restaurant, Le Fournil en Route has opened and is making scrumptious freshly baked goods every day, so bon appétit! The relaxed boulangerie and coffee shop will feature a wide variety of slow-risen artisan breads as well as pastries, desserts and croissants. The outside play area and surrounding gardens at the restaurant have also received an upgrade. The old conference centre has been completely transformed into 3 new and beautiful suite villas. These large spacious villas have been tastefully furnished as well as their respective patio and braai areas.
The total revamp project on our units started in 2015 and is well underway. The resort is getting a beautiful new reception area while the old one will be converted back into a unit.
The resort is getting some very modern entertainment for the games room, including gaming platforms and the like. A new adventure Putt ‘n Play course and giant chess set have also been added to the on-site entertainment facilities. A Jacuzzi pavilion (featuring 2 Jacuzzis) will be installed near the indoor pool area and the braai areas are being upgraded. The area above reception is being converted into 3 individual units.
Resort refurbishment commenced in 2015 and is a continuing project. Fireplaces were added in the units to make them cosier in colder months. All lights are LED and we have added gas hobs and solar geysers in the units, to be in line with our Go Green campaign. Adrenalin junkies are in for a treat as new facilities offered at this mountain getaway include abseiling, zip lining, Go-karting, abseiling and a rope adventure park! Members will also love dining al fresco while drinking in the majestic views of the Berg and surrounds from the Bell and Whistle Restaurant. The on-site food and beverage facilities are serving up hearty meals and a great atmosphere! With the completion of the dam wall allowing for optimal water management, Cayley lodge now has a boat operator offering cruises on the dam and there are various water sports activities to be enjoyed, such as kayaking. The resort will also be installing a giant outdoor Jumping Pillow and has implemented fun new “Bring and Braais” on Wednesday evenings.
Refurbishment is planned to take place during the next three years in 2017/18/19. To the delight of young and old alike, we installed the first ever Jumping Pillow facility in the country in this mountain resort! An indoor pool complex is currently under construction and is expected for completion in December. The indoor pool complex will include 2 Jacuzzis, kiddies splash pads and a kiddies’ water channel, this will be so much fun for our younger guests while the adults relax and keep watch from the new Jacuzzis. A new Putt ‘n Play course is also under construction, allowing our Members to appreciate the natural beauty of the breathtaking Maluti Mountains whilst practicing their golf swing. The entire exterior was repainted in 2016 and the renovations and upgrades to the @Ease Lounge and kids’ games room have been completed. There are plans to extend the resort to include 10 new rental units and upgrade the Body Bliss Day Spa areas and on-site shop.
Suntide Qunu Lodge
This nature lovers’ getaway, located in the heart of Ixopo, will have a facelift when refurbs start in 2017 and its facilities upgraded to boot. It will feature an outdoor entertainment area for the entire family as well as a giant outdoor Jumping Pillow!!
Sunshine Bay Beach Club
The exciting ongoing renovations on the units include everything from new showers to awnings and we can’t wait to see how they’ll turn out! The games room will also get more fun activities while the Putt ‘n Play green is being repaired. The pool area and surrounds have been completely refurbished and are looking great!
Some units at this St Francis Bay resort are still being upgraded and are set to be completely refurbished with a fresh new look. The kiddies’ games room has received some upgrades and the tired looking wharfs have been replaced by beautiful new ones, perfect for starting your day out on the water and docking your vessels.
The unit interiors are being fitted with gas hobs, induction kettles, solar geysers and LED lighting, to stay in line with our Go Green campaign. All unit braais have been tiled and new vinyl flooring have been installed throughout the units to keep them cool during summer, and warmer during the winter months.
The Kingdom Resort
There are always exciting things going on at The Kingdom Resort and recent developments have included the continual expansion of the resort, with the construction of Nodes C and D and a further 30 units planned for development in 2017.
- Acacia Terrace, the on-site Café, is currently being upgraded to include a pizza parlour.
- There have been upgrades to the kids’ entertainment areas.
- Quad biking and bicycle facilities have been added to the resort.
There have been refurbishments to Splash Kingdom Waterpark and swimming pool areas, and there are plans to install a beach bar or “Jungle Bar” at the Waterpark.
- The Sales offices as well as the Reception area have been upgraded and refurbished.
- “Bring and Braais” have been introduced for guest participation on Wednesday nights.
- Future developments include the addition of a Jumping Pillow and an outdoor theatre.
Monomotapa Village at Legends Golf and Safari Resort
Construction has progressed splendidly and the 2 new units will be available from November 2016, with full access to all that the resort has on offer.
KZN South Coast
The resort has recently upgraded the entire Reception area as well as adding a brand new guard house to the property, maximising security.
