Escaping from the daily grind is easier than you think! Whether you feel like a bush adventure or a restful mountain retreat, Gauteng is literally surrounded by fantastic self-catering destinations within easy driving distance. If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, we suggest these fantastic breakaways, with driving distances measured from the centre of Midrand*.

Destinations approximately an hour to 1.5 hours away:

DIKHOLOLO is in a lush green wonderland, set among beautiful rock formations. The resort offers a true bushveld experience away from city life, despite being only an hour's drive from Midrand.  The area also offers lovely bird watching and game viewing opportunities.

SEASONS SPORT AND SPA is located in the Seasons Eco Golf Estate and set in 300 acres of natural indigenous bushveld for real peace and quiet, perfect for a weekend of golf and pampering at the spa.  Hartbeesport Dam is a stone’s throw away.

Other resorts within this driving distance include Mount Amanzi and Magalies Park in the North West Province and Mabalingwe Nature Reserve in Limpopo.

THE KINGDOM RESORT, which is two hours away, is a uniquely African premier destination ideally located right next to the Pilanesberg National Park. WATERBERG GAME PARK in Limpopo is less than three hours away and is an ideal destination if you want to get up close and personal with Mother Nature. You will encounter Giraffe, Zebra, 10 species of buck and a variety of small game while on foot or on your mountain bike. The resort also offers plenty of facilities to keep you and your family entertained.

FALCON GLEN in Mpumalanga, also less than 3 hours away, features natural warm water pools where you can soak away your aches and pains. This peaceful retreat in the Highveld boasts beautiful views and abundant birdlife. It is about 20kms from the famous Sudwala Caves and approximately 109kms from the Kruger National Park Numbi gate.

DUNKELD COUNTRY ESTATE is the fly fishing capital of South Africa and is not even a 3-hour journey from Gauteng. There are several well-stocked dams on the property and nearby, for fishermen to try their luck in.
